Welcome to the Art Yinspiration Gallery of Michelle Yamamoto

My art was featured in one group show and one solo show for “First Thursday Art Walk” in Portland last night!!Yaaay!!

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

Travis and I headed to Portland for my first group art show in Portland at the edgy and distinctly urban art gallery, “TheCompound” located in the Pearl District. They represent independent and underground Japanese artists and also just plain old wickedly talented artists and here is a blurb about the show concept to the artists from Ryuichi the curator.

The show  features Japanese artist Ryuichi Ogino (Ogi).  The title of
the show is “Idealistically Hypocritical”. The concept for the show is
“MASH UP”.  Mash Up was inspired by the DJ technique of combining two
different songs to create one composition.   Ogi wants to mix other
artists works with his own for a unique installation show. The only constraint is the
size.  The piece needs to be 8.5″ x 11.75″.  Subject and medium is your
choice.

The painting titled “Struggle with Ego” was my submission and there were probably forty other artists participating as well. The place was PACKED, exactly how an art opening should be and upon chatting with Ryuichi I discovered he was heartfelt in his hopes for people accepting all expressions of art including the wide range that made up his Mash up. It was soooo much fun and inspiration to be around so much creative and youthful energy and art! Check them out if you can, their retail floor boggles the imagination as well. Then onto salon77 where a mix of my originals and reproductions filled the walls and the owner Sara had an elaborate and tasty spread of appetizers, champagne and beer for the many art lovers who stopped by.

“State of the Art” Gritty Urban meets mountain culture art show in Whistler, BC

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

In my other hometown ( before I moved to Hood River) of Whistler BC, April is a highly anticipated month as the town welcomes back athletes, artists, DJ’s, bands, sponsors, photographers, filmmakers and partiers to the Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival. As you will see on the attached  ”Artsy News update”, I was very happily invited to participate in the prestigious “State of the Art” show where Gritty Urban meets Mountain Culture. It was a ten day long celebration of everything that Whistler does best!

My solo exhibition at both Gala events of the “Cornucopia” International Wine Festival in Whistler a huge success!

My solo exhibition at Whistler's Cornucopia International Wine Festival so much fun!!

My solo exhibition at Whistler's Cornucopia International Wine Festival so much fun!!

I was honored to be invited to exhibit my new series titled “Yin Meditations” at Whistler’s International wine Festival. The first night around 1000 people attended and there were over 70 wineries participating. The second night, over 1300 people attended and I met so many fabulous wine and art  lovers! This painting titled, “The Dresser” sold and while I got contact information from the patron, the lady standing right behind him was waiting to buy it as well. When I told her that it had just sold, she decided that she would be thrilled if I just painted it again,…three times the size, please!  Two reproductions also sold and another commission to do a man’s wife’s portrait and so I celebrated the next day by skiing in Whistler’s 120 inches of fresh snow. Cornucopia was an elegant and fun event and I am most blessed by the people that I met who were touched by my work and that for me, is what it is all about. Touching people.

“Rodin’s Sentenced man

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Here is a little watercolor I just finished of Auguste Rodin’s sculpted figure of a condemned man and in the words of Rainer Maria Rilke, “The man who carried the key. In him there is still life enough for many years to come, but all of it is compressed into this final hour.”

I haven't used watercolors in around 7 years but this was fun.
