I sold five paintings this month, woohoo!
Monday, August 30th, 2010It has been three months since I last added comments to my blog because it started to feel like work that i didn’t have time for which is a bit naughty of me but selling five paintings in the last four weeks is the culmination of a year of hard work exhibiting in both Canada and the United States. In June, I went up to Squamish and installed 16 of my limited edition reproductions at Onatah, 7 of them new from my 4 shows earlier this year and the response has been fabulous! Seeing my surf art on one wall with my buddha art and my urban art on another wall, it looked pretty cool and I felt proud to be the artist. The same collection was installed in Sushi Okalani in Hood River this month and runs through to the beginning of October. I also was asked by the owner Thomas, of a very hip interior and garden decorating shop in the Pearl District called “Digg”, to do three small buddha art pieces which are displayed nicely right at the entrance of his store. My Urban Art series from the State of the Art show in Whistler in April found a wonderful new home this summer at the Columbia Art Gallery in Hood River and I also installed a few reproductions and a few originals at the Dalles Art Centre. I was asked to do two commissions in July and August, one for the owner of Sushi Okalani which I absolutely love. It is a painting of a geisha who also happens to be a poet and she sits in front of a full moon holding her scroll and calligraphy brush with her muse, a dragon watches over her. Then a few weeks ago I was invited to do live art at the annual fundraising event for the Columbia Centre of the Arts at a beautiful old outdoor venue at a local winery. There were four other artists also doing live art and a great band played while wine was served and art was created. Now as summer feels like it is drawing to a premature close (boo hoo!!) my thoughts are turning to what my next series will be and it will probably continue the Japanese geisha theme but we will see!!
